Ok class, it's time to brush up on your art history – never mind a pop quiz, you've got a design challenge to think of! Yes that's right, this month's leggings competition is all about the work of modernist French artist, Henri Matisse. Think bold color blocks in simple, naive shapes, and distorted, out of proportion figures; all coming together to form these collage style canvases. So what are you waiting for? Pick up your paintbrushes, don a beret, and as the French say: “Allons-y!”

This competition is for leggings. As always, don't forget that your print might need to be adjusted to fit the appropriate template. All templates are marked with design specifications to help you get your design just right. Please note that all FRS templates may differ slightly from final manufacturing specifications, so make sure your print is versatile and flexible enough for production.

What can you win?

Each winner receives a one-off immediate prize of 200€ . plus one of their products when it arrives in stock. But that is not all - each & every time we sell 500 pieces of your design, you will receive an additional €200. This means that FRS can continue to embody the spirit of fashion democracy, rewarding our top designs again...and again...and again! TRENDS // FASHION SNOOPS - F/W 2015-16 WOMEN'S PRINTS + PATTERNS

Here is a preview of FASHION SNOOPS',  Fall/Winter 2015-16 Women's trends.  Fashion Snoop is an online forecasting trend service that reports on color, design themes, key items, details, etc., for women's, men's, kid's and accessories.  To learn more and subscribe to their services, go here to view their amazing site and check out their inspiring blog. You can also purchase a full report of each of the key trends, here .

    FAUX TEXTURE

The faux textures divide into two main groups- as we try to fake the textures of mother nature and of other materials and textures such as cable knit. Nature inspires, from growing bacteria to geology and natural crop circles, we see great depth here, as well as bark, fur, wood being faked in a digital design. It is one of the broadest and yet largest graphic expressions.

    OPTICAL ILLUSIONS

Optical illusion prints are once again catching our eye, literally. Worn head to toe the prints are typically tamer and monochrome, as opposed to the a-line mini dresses which are bold in color and design. Size altering chevrons add newness to this trend. By the time they reached Paris they grew in strength and diversity, ranging between Òsquint your eyes to be hyptoinizedÓ designs to oversized swirls, flowing in random directions. Excitement comes when these illusions are on citrus limes and oranges and are sliced geometrics.

   PLAIDS

There's always a plaid on offer, especially as the colder weather starts to creep back in. For Fall 14 the color palette includes various orange tones and a strong cobalt blue, muted, menswear monochromes and of course a huge influx of red tartan. Newness comes when the plaids are pieced together with clashing color combos, or lime green options on blazers, vests and oversized outerwear.

DESIGN COMPETITION // FRONT ROW SOCIETY - POLYNESIAN

CREATIVE BRIEF

Submission Deadline: 15 May, 2014, 6pm CET
Voting Starts: 16 May, 2014, 6pm CET

With summer drawing tantalizingly near, we’ve already switched to full-on tropical island dreamtime here at Front Row Society! And hey, we figured who isn’t ready for a little sunshine fantasy at this stage?! So that’s why for this month’s scarf design challenge we’re asking you guys to immerse yourselves in the colorful world of the Polynesian isles.

Imagine being one of those first early explorers arriving in these island paradises; catching their first glimpses of exotic birds, and strange new wildlife. Think big, beautiful tropical flowers bursting from lush green landscapes; brilliantly colored tribal tattoos intricately painted onto the skin; right down to the vintage sketches and prints made recording these impressions.

This competition is for scarves.

We will also conduct an interview with the winner, publicizing their design across the fashion community in Berlin and worldwide.
